Hindustani Classical Music Series – Ustad Late Faiyaz Khan

  

Ustad Faiyaz Khan saheb was born in Sikar town in Rajasthan into a family of rich music tradition. Khan Saheb received his first guidance under his father, in vocal music, Sarangi and Tabla. As grew up he received training from several towering maestros, including Ustad Inam Ali Khan and Ustad Himayat Khan. The official broadcaster All India Radio, in post independent India, offered immense opportunity and reach to artists in India. Ustad Faiyaz Khan was among those artists who were closely associated with AIR. He accompanied almost all the stalwarts of Hindustani classical music all over the country and abroad. He also accompanied several young artists, who are making their mark in the world of music today.

From 1992, Khan Saheb also taught several keen western students Rotterdam Conservatory. He had numerous students in India as well. His students and disciples recollect Khan saheb as a friend more than as a teacher.

The present DVD is almost the only available academic source on tabla. Ustad Faiyaz Khan explains and demonstrates the nuances of the table and the rhythm.
