Māravijaya: As a prerequisite of his enlightenment the Bodhisattva achieves victory over Māra.

(a)     Māra, the lord of the sensual world, considers the possible ways of preventing the enlightenment.

(b)     Māra accuses the Bodhisattva of having no record of virtue.

(c)     Summoned by the Bodhisattva's hand, the goddess of the earth has appeared to testify to his virtue.

(d)     Māra instructs his daughters to induce the Bodhisattva to sensuality.

(e)     Māra's daughters invite the Bodhisattva to sensual pleasures with seductive has words and gestures.

(f)      Māra is sitting in desperation under an Aśoka tree.

(g)     Māra's demonic legions, in human and in animal form, attack the Bodhisattva and try in vain to frighten and terrify him.

(h)     Warriors, struck to the ground, testify to Māra's defeat.
