Udāyin, the son of King Śuddhodana's priest, who is called Kāloḍāyin
"Dark Udāyin" because of his skin colour, is sitting in cosy
companionship with his lover Guptā, the widow of his friend.

Udāyin leaves king's behest in order to bring the Buddha an
invitation from the king to visit his hometown.

After learning that her lover has entered the monastic order
while visiting the Buddha, Guptā sits sadly in her garden.
