The foundation inscription referring to the construction of the stone temple of Raja Rajesvara (Brhadisvara) by the emperor Rajaraja Chola in his 25th regnal year (1010 a.d.) at Tanjore. It records the royal order to be engraved on the base of the main temple, the gifts made by him, his sister, his queens and others. The order was issued when the emperor was seated in his royal palace at Tanjore. The gift includes several items of gold, like diadems, plates, bowls, pitchers, pots, salvers, cups, censers, chains etc. Also were included in the gifts, several trumpets made of gold, temple parasols fly whisks, golden flowers etc. the golden trumpets were inscribed with the names, “Rajaraja” and “Sivapadasekhara” the titles of the Emperor .
