The Śiva Liṅga as the Divine, receives worship in sixteen stages among which five stages are important which include 1) invocation of Śiva in the Liṅga image, 2) abhiṣeka, 3) Nivedana 4) Dīpa and 5) Nṛtta, Gīta, Vādya. Offering of Nṛtta Gīta Vādyais essential part regular worship Dance as prescribed in Bharata’s Nāṭyaśāstra, offering of vocal music, and Instrumental music and dance are brought under regular worship. There are two types of dances prevalent among temple dance one a pure dance called suddha nṛtta and the other abhinaya for devotional song performed by girls alone and that requires the presence of Dancing girls as a regular.
