The entire area is home to many tribal groups and ethnic communities, each with its rich history of customs, traditions and life ways.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Centre has been engaged in research and documentation of lesser-known and dying forms of art and culture from North East India. The Centre has thrived to engage with different universities, institutions, cultural organizations, groups, communities and tribes of the region through various cultural exchange programmes in the form of workshops, cultural performances, demonstrations, exhibitions, fairs and festivals etc. The Centre also organizes academic programs like field based research projects, documentations, seminars, lectures, symposiums, panel discussions, conferences etc. to provide a platform for dissemination of knowledge and raise awareness about the unique cultural heritage of the North East region.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">IGNCA established its first project office specifically for North Eastern projects at Imphal, Manipur under Janapada Sampada Division. The project office was relocated to Gauhati University premises, Guwahati, Assam in 2001.
