This initiative enables both the preservation and display of a significant private collection, making it accessible for scholars, researchers, and the public.<br \/>\nThe visual storage showcases a wide range of paintings, prints, and sculptures by eminent Indian artists such as Ramkinkar Baij, K.G. Subramanyan, Subodh Gupta, Arpana Caur, Paresh Maity, among many others. It also includes works by international artists from the private collection of the late art critic and collector Suneet Chopra. In addition, select articles and writings by Suneet Chopra on art are on display, providing valuable insight into his critical and intellectual contributions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Suneet Krishna Chandra Chopra (1941\u20132023) was an eminent intellectual, noted art critic, curator, and public figure. Born in Lahore in 1941, he received his early education at Modern School and St. Columba\u2019s School in New Delhi, and later studied at St. Xavier\u2019s College, Kolkata. He pursued higher studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. His academic work included field research in Nigeria, where he compiled the first Hausa-English dictionary. He was fluent in multiple languages, including English, Hindi, Punjabi, French, Latin, and Hausa.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As a writer and art critic of considerable merit, Suneet Chopra was a regular contributor to leading publications such as The Hindustan Times, The Economic Times, Financial Express, and Art &amp; Deal. He curated numerous exhibitions and actively supported emerging artists across the country. He also served as an advisor to the BBC on films, including Seeds of Joy and Seeds of Sorrow and the initial episodes of the television series Navrang.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">An avid collector, he built an extensive collection of approximately 4,000 objects, including paintings, prints, sculptures, awards, audio-visual material, books, papers, and correspondence. The collection features works by leading artists such as K.G. Subramanyan, Ramkinkar Baij, Subodh Gupta, S.H. Raza, Paresh Maity, Arpana Caur, Shamshad Husain, and M.R. Achrekar, along with a rich representation of indigenous and tribal art, as well as works by emerging artists.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Following his passing on April 4, 2023, in New Delhi at the age of 81, the entire collection was generously donated by his family to IGNCA in 2024.
