India possess an impressive heritage in the historical continuity of Indian architectural traditions. In order to promote the study and appreciation of Indian Culture, Indian society was formed in London in early 20th&nbsp;century. The initiative taken by thesociety in collecting material relating to the living tradition of Indian art and architecture with the active support of the government of India resulted in the publication of this volume.<\/p>\n<p>The photographs of the contemporary architecture during colonial period throw ample light on the transition phase of architecture was subjected to but nevertheless it retained its Indian flavor.
