Types of Modern Indian Buildings (1913) by Gorden Sanderson. India possess an impressive heritage in the historical continuity of Indian architectural traditions. In order to promote the study and appreciation of Indian Culture, Indian society was formed in London in early 20th century. The initiative taken by thesociety in collecting material relating to the living tradition of Indian art and architecture with the active support of the government of India resulted in the publication of this volume.<\/p>\n

The photographs of the contemporary architecture during colonial period throw ample light on the transition phase of architecture was subjected to but nevertheless it retained its Indian flavor. The photographs 93 in number and the text by Gordon Sanderson attempts to cover some of the modern Indian Building at Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Allahabad, Lucknow, Ajmer, Bhopal, Bikaner, Gwalior, Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur with notes on the craftsmen employed on their design and execution.<\/p>\n

The photographs are lively and adds to the nostalgia about our ancient past, the textual information makes it interesting piece of reading for layman as well as the serious student of architecture and archaeology.<\/p>\n
