\nA modest tradition of making clay images existed in Bengal in pre-British times. These craftsmen originally \u201cPotters\u201d by caste became the core settlers of Kumartuli, which means \u201cPotters Quarter\u201d. In spite of contributing to the biggest socio-economic festivity of the Bengali Hindus, Durga Puja, shared by the people belonging to every community, culture and religion, their art is anonymously produced, anonymously sold, and then cast into the river year after year.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cDocumentation of Clay Image Makers of Kumartuli\u201d is an attempt to understand their plight and Kumartuli\u2019s contribution to the one of the biggest festival in the world.<\/p>\n

It has been selected for RAJAT KAMAL for 62nd National Film awards for the year 2014 \u2013 \u201cfor its extensive study of the craft and community of the Clay Image makers in the context of time\u201d.<\/p>\n
