Though it could be used to represent any older, relatively halus, Patih, this mask is specifically designed for the portrayal of Patih Ularan, a tragic figure who defeated and beheaded the Dalem of Pasuruhan in the same expedition in which Jelantik was nobly killed and the masks of Gajah Mada and others were captured and brought to Bali. he was sent into exile by Dalem Batu Renggong for exceeding the scope of his orders -- which were to punish, and not to kill, the Javanese King.
