Description:

This village leader is one of the few bondres characters to frequently have an integral role in the plot of a topeng narrative, often used as a messenger from or spokesperson for the beleaguered villagers. In the Gajah Mada stories, he represents the interests of the pre-Majapahit Balinese, depicted as being ground down by the tyranny of Dalem Bedaulu. The mask might also be worn to represent a traditional healer, or dukuh.
