Description:

This particularly lascivious "Schuttig" devil is one of a half dozen Fasnet (Fasnacht) masks specific to the Black Forest town of Elzach, whose carnival traditions date back at least to the 16th Century. The distinctive snail shell covered helmet is worn with all of these masks as they dance down the street in procession, hitting bystanders with pigs' bladders and dragging them from the lines of onlookers.
