The Roelli, with its painted glasses and trim little moustache presents a comic self-portrait of the Swiss bourgeousie in Fasnacht celebrations of central Switzerland. The features are similar to those of the Gilles mask specific to Binche, Belgium. The Gilles mask, though, is made of wax over mesh.
