Maria mask is used as a funeral symbol. This tradition is an impact of Abujh Maria culture on Muria society. In the memory of a dead person this mask is made and is kept in any corner of the house. This is worshipped by burning sandal wood. Figures of serpant, fish and Kosha insect are carved on this mask. The Nag (serpant), the fish and Kosha symbolises death, life and world respectively. |
