Kach-Debyani. The dance is based on Rabindra Nath Tagore's immortal verse 'Bidya-Abhisap'. After mastering the secret of 'Mrutasanjivani' (the Nector of life) in the hermitage of Sukracharya, Koch fulfills h is life's ambition. Duty bound he prepares to depart to his heavenly abode. During his arduous apprenticesip of thousand years, Devyani, the only daughter of the Sage, was his constant companion. The fateful hour of parting thus comes in the lives of Koch and Devyani. Passionate love of full one thousand years. Streams of tears from a pair of adorning eyes-are they worth nothing at the alter of duty? The dance depict the two great loves with all its grandeur. One astur, heavenly and sublime too deep for tears and the outer earthly full of pathos, intensity and passion. Duty prevails over love and Koch ultimately eparts. Whilst Devyani curses him that he will forget his boon the Nector of life in the greatest hour of need. |
