This mask is used during boy's initiation ceremony. These type of masks are made and used by a secrete society of Chewa men of Eastern Province. These dances appear when boys who become of age are taken to the Dambwe (camp) to be taught of general good behaviour, how to be a good husband and father and Nyau dance. This ceremony lasts for one month.
