4-day IFLA Newspaper Conference from feb 25

Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), in collaboration with the newspapers section of
International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), will organise a four-day ifla international newspaper conference 2010 at
IGNCA, New Delhi, from February 25.
newspaper librarians and archivists from
India, Finland, Australia, the US, the UK, France, Sweden, Germany,
Aouth Africa, Singapore, Bangladesh and other parts of the world will participate in the conference with the theme ‘Digital
Preservation and Access to News and Views’.
Ramesh C Gaur, Librarian and Head of the
Kala Nidhi division at IGNCA, said the conference would provide a platform to
Indian media librarians to exchange ideas.
Tthe latest research, technical innovations and business developments in preservation and dissemination of historical and contemporary news and newspapers would be discussed at the meet. of particular interest would be the latest developments in digitisation of historical newspapers.
This was the first time, Gaur said, the international newspaper libraries conference was being held in
India. since problems and issues concerning media libraries are hardly discussed in the country, he said, this was a golden opportunity for
Indian media librarians to expand their horizons.
