IGNCA Book Circle @ Reference Library. Oma sharma is a noted Hindi writer. He has published six books that include two collections of short stories, namely ‘Bhavishyadrista’ (भविष्यदृष्टा) and ‘Karobaar’ (कारोबार). Besides, he is widely known in India for translating the autobiography of Stefan Zweig ‘The world of yesterday’ in Hindi titled ‘Vo Gujra Zamaana’ (वो गुजरा जमाना). Adab Se Muthbhed, (अदब से मुठभेड़) his book by way of literary encounters with Legends like Rajendra yadav, Mannoo Bhandari, Priyamvad, Shiv murti and M F Husain has been hugely appreciated for its critical probing. He has just published his travel diaries titled ‘Antaryatrayen :Via Vienna’ ( अन्तरयात्राएं: वाया वियना ) which records a long, never before attempted kind of essay about Stefan Zweig, Vienna and the cultural aspect of Austria.

IGNCA Book Circle @ Reference Library. This month, Ms. Sukrita Paul Kumar will read from her book of poems Dream Catcher. The poems in this volume come from her sojourn in China, her contact with the snowy winter of Minnesota, the experience of the city forest of Jahanpanah and other imaginary terrains triggered off from the real stories of Tsunami devastation etc…or sieved from her memory of some odd dream-like reality. Sukrita Paul Kumar, born in Kenya, lives currently in Delhi, writing poetry and teaching literature. An Honorary Fellow of the prestigious International Writing Programme, University of Iowa (USA), Cambridge Seminars and a former Fellow of the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla, she was also an invited poet in residence at Hong Kong Baptist University, China. Honorary faculty at the Durrell Centre at Corfu (Greece) and a recipient of many international fellowships and residencies, she has published several collections of poems in English that include Dream Catcher, Without Margins, Apurna, Folds of Silence and Oscillations. A number of Sukrita’s poems have emerged from her experience of working with homeless people, Tsunami victims and street children.

IGNCA Book Circle @ Reference Library. This month, Prof Susan Visvanathan will read from her book The Children of Nature: The Life and Legacy of Ramana Maharshi. The book addresses the question of devotion and community life with respect to Ramanasramam in Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu. It seeks to understand mysticism, transcendence and detachment within a historical perspective, looking at narratives from a feminist perspective. Prof Susan Visvanathan teaches Sociology at Centre for the Study of Social Systems, JNU, Delhi. She is the author of The Christians of Kerala, and also a well known writer of literary fiction. Susan Visvanathan was Fellow at NMML, Delhi and at IIAS, Shimla and MSH, Paris She was SASNET Fellow at Lund University and Charles Wallace Fellow at Belfast.

IGNCA Book Circle @ Reference Library. This Month Esther David will read from her book Book of Rachel. Esther David is an Indian author who lives in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Her novels are based on the Jewish experience in India. She weaves her stories around the Bene Israel Jewish community of India. Esther David has received the Sahitya Akademi award for 2010 for English Literature from the Government of India. The novel is about the old who have been left behind in India by families, which immigrated to Israel. She deals with the pervading sense of isolation, by trying out an ancient recipe every day.Rachel’s story is woven around love,longing,recipes and the Jewish heritage in India.

Her first collection of poetry, Boki, was published in 2008. Das’s PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru University dealt with constructions of the Assamese Identity under the British. Das teaches literature at Indraprastha College for Women, University of Delhi.

IGNCA Book Circle @ Reference Library – Sung in a sensual style by Ms. Rekha Surya, one of the few practitioners of the Lucknow Gharana of North Indian music, She has kept alive traditional ghazal-gayaki and preserved the legacy of her legendary guru Begum Akhtar by propagating this art at prestigious concert and lecture venues in India and abroad. Having also honed her skills under tutelage of another legend, Girija Devi of Benaras gharana, she has combined both styles of singing into an individualistic style.

Dr. Alka Tyagi is Associate Professor in English Dept. at Dyal Singh (eve) College, University of Delhi. She has a doctoral degree on the subject, Inter-semiotic Transformations: A Study of the Poetry of Two Medieval Saints, Akka Mahadevi and Andal from School of Arts and Aesthetics, JNU, New Delhi. Her English poetry collection, Whispers at the Ganga Ghat (2014) has been published by Mark Media, New Delhi. Two collections of her Hindi poems called Sun Ri Sakhi (2009) and Amaltas (2014) have been published by Surya Prakashan Mandir,Bikaner and Ka- Kala,Sampada evam Vaichariki respectively .
