The Role of Women in Kathakali - A Male Dominated Art Form – A Socio Cultural Analysis

IGNCA Regional Centre, Vadodara, in collaboration with the Dept. of Dramatics, Faculty of Performing Arts, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara, organised a lecture demonstration by Dr.HaripriyaNamboothiri.Dr.Namboothiri is one of the few women actors in Kathakali who play both the male and female roles. As Kathakali is lesser known in the Western part of the country, the lecture demonstration by the artist was primarily conducted to enlighten the younger generation of this magnificent art form.

Gandhi Virasat- Kagaz Kala, an exhibition of calligraphic works on handmade paper

IGNCA Regional Centre Vadodara in collaboration with theRed Earth Gallery conducted an exhibition that showcased calligraphic artworks in multiple Indian scripts by 11 eminent calligraphers of India.This was the second event under the 150th Anniversary Celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi at the RC, Vadodara. The exhibition was a travelling exhibition being conceived by the Conservation Division, IGNCA, New Delhi and curated by – Smt. Jaya Jaitly.

Bookaroo - Festival of Children’s Literature

The two-day BookarooChildren’s Literature Festival was organised by IGNCA Regional Centre Vadodara, in collaboration with the Alembic Group, Vadodara. It included a series of workshops, storytelling sessions, drama and art and craft activities for children aged 4-14 years. The broad aim of the literature festival was to instil a love for books in children, promote reading habits from a very young age and inculcate/ develop writing and public speaking skills in children.

Museum walk and storytelling for young children

This museum walk was conducted by IGNCA Regional Centre, Vadodara in collaboration with the Baroda Museum and Picture Gallery, Vadodara and ‘EkKhwaish’, a Baroda based NGO for their group of underprivileged children. The museum walks include facts about the museum and stories about its collections. The main objective remains to reach out to as many people as possible. Considering the comprehension level of these children, the sessionsare delivered in Hindi. After the museum walk, the children solve activity sheets which are also prepared in Hindi to cater to their learning needs.

RE-ORG INDIA International Workshop

The twelve day workshop was conducted as a collaboration between IGNCA Delhi, ICCROM, Baroda Museum and Picture Gallery, and IGNCA Regional Centre Vadodara. It was a capacity building programme for museum professionals that imparted knowledge and skills on re-organisation of museum storages.

Workshop on 'Applied Natya Therapy'

The workshop was an integrated programme by NariSamvaadPrakalp, IGNCA, New Delhi, IGNCA – Regional Centre, Vadodara and the Department of Dramatics, Faculty of Performing Arts, MSU, Baroda. It is an interdisciplinary project in which the participants learn the confluence of Neuro Science and Psychotherapy that can help create an evidence based approach to healing. The programme aims at establishing a relationship between psychotherapy and Bharata’sNatyaShastra.

A Father’s Day Special

ThisFather’s Day special activity was planned to celebrate fatherhood in the museum. The underpinning thought was to encourage fathers to bring their kids to the museum.This was a special programme where the walk was structured around the prominent role of fathers in bringing up children. The walk was conducted by RC Vadodara in collaboration with Maharaja Fatesingh Museum, Vadodara.
