Synopsis: Today’s Aihoḷe is an over grown village in Bhagalkat District of Karnataka. Originally known as Ayyavola or Aryapur, it was the capital of Cāḷukyan dynasty through 6th to the 8th century AD. The oldest flat roofed Lad Khan temple, the flat roofed Kontagudi temple, dedicated to Śiva, the apsidal Durga temple, the northern style Śikhara temples of Huchimalli Gudi and Hucchappayya, the Meguti Jaina temple, seated on a hill, show the eclectic confluence of sectarian and aesthetic traditions at Aihole.

The film talks about how Mahatma Gandhi got the idea of satyāgraha and thereby recognized Kasturba as his teacher. ‘AMS EASY METHODS’, Lecture and Demonstration by Prof.Akella Mallikarjuna Sharma. Sangeeta Kala Acharya Vidu. Smt. Neela Ramgopal was Chief Guest and Vidu.Geetha Ramanand was Eminent Guest for the lecture and demonstration. Shri Vikram Sampath, Executive Director, IGNCASRC, Bengaluru welcomed the audience and addressed the gathering the eminence of Prof.AMS, his great contributions as a musician-violinist giving accompaniments to many great Vidwans and Vidushees, as a Professor teaching and as Principal, administering, as a scholar researching and as an author with many books of great merits on Karnataka Sangeetham. He also paid his respect to Prof. AMS as his Sadguru and the special relationship both of them enjoyed. Vid.Shri Sandhyavandanam Madhva Muni Rao, who had proposed this event and acted as coordinator for this event joined the distinguished artists on the Dias, on invitation. Invocation song was rendered by the students of Prof.Nagendra Sashtri Srikantham and the Gyana Jyothi was lighted by the distinguished Vidwans, Vidushees and Shri Vikram Sampath. The Lecture Demonstration followed by EXPERTS PANEL DISCUSSIONS as Dr.Suma Sudhindra was the Chairperson and the experts panel consisted of Vidu.Neela Ramgopal; Vidu.Geetha Ramanand, Vidu.Madhavi Ramkuma, Vid.B.K.Chandramouli, Dr.K.Varada Rangan, Prof.Nagendra Shastri Srikantham. The discussions highlights were: 1. the teaching method has to be customized to suit the student. 2. the laya exercises is immensely useful to the students learning instruments 3.the emphasis is more on laya and lakshanas and the focus also has to be on lakshya aspect in self learning 4.the role of teacher to guide and mentoring cannot be dispensed with. Joining the discussions at the end of the panel discussions, Shri S.Madhva Muni Rao, coordinator for this event briefly explained that ‘AMS EASY METHODS’ does attempts customization not individually but collectively, it supports gaining the knowledge and the skills for‘re-creativity’ of the original creative works. It will enable better the distance education and Karnataka Sangeetham appreciation and practices paving the way for music for masses. Dr.Suma Sudhindra, Chairperson summarized the panel discussions recognizing the merits and demerits in the ‘AMS EASY METHODS’; made recommendation for acceptance and trying the system and methods in stages and with specific plan. With results encouraging, revision in the syllabus for academic teaching and examinations are to be written and submitted to the Board of studies.

Report on the Kuchipudi Dance Workshop and Performance

The three day Kuchipudi Workshop and Performance was to commemoration of the departed soul Shri. A P J Abdul Kalam was inaugurated by Shri. Vikram Sampath, Executive Directror of IGNCA SRC. Dr. Vedantham Ramalinga Shashtry, Smt. Vidu. Sunanda Devi, Smt. Gangamma Keshava Murthy and Shri. T G Narasimha Murthy was present on stage.  Dr. Vedantham Ramalinga Shashtry garu, Workshop Director took the participants through the nuances and explained different mudras and songs in Kuchipudi form. Participants were divided into two groups as seniors and juniors for the convenience of teaching.  Smt. Vaijanthi Kashi, Smt. Venkata Durga Bhavani, Smt. Shivakumari and Vedantham Shri. Ramu were other teachersduring the Workshop.
The performance received applauds as Smt. Padmini Ragini Pattu and other partipants performed on stage.

IGNCA SRC in association with Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, is organizing a Lecture Demonstration and Performance of Perini – Dance form of Andhra Pradesh byShri. Kalakrishan and accompanist

Perini is a form of Indian dance which was lost in timeline and which was recreated and re-established in 20th century by Padmasri Dr. Nataraja Ramakrishna. Perini Shiva Tandavam is the stimulator to activate the dormant dynamism in human. Perini is the slang form of the word ‘prerana’ which means stimulation. It is said to be the only form of scientifically composed male warrior dance and a form of traditional Indian dance with tala, gati, yati vinyasa. While performing and viewing this dance we experience a state where the panchabhutas are slowly mingling into the Shiva Tattva.The Perini dancer is possessed with an energy and that can be proved incessantly where the sound ‘tam’ from the mridangam resembles the ‘aum’. To prove this Dr. Nataraja Ramakrishna used Dhrupada Mridanga Baani. The sound produced in the solar plexus region extends to rest of the body and stimulates them.To perform this art it requires the perfect co-ordination of mind, body and soul. It is a kind of ritual also where one can offer prayers to Lord Shiva and it is said to activate the kundalini. Dr. Sudha Murthy, Chairperson of the Infosys Foundation inaugurated the performance and on the spot made a generous donation to all the artists and urged them to keep this rare tradition alive.

IGNCA SRC in association with Max Mueller Bhavan, Bangalore organized an “Exhibition Rabindranath Tagore: A Visionary, Artist and Poet”. The exhibition was inaugurated by Shri. Chiranjivi Singh, IAS (Retd), Shri. Achintya Lal Roy, Convener, Tagore Cultural Centre, Shri. Virendra Bangroo, Curator of the Exhibition and Shri. Vikram Sampath, Executive Director, IGNCA SRC. Shri. Chiranjivi Singh, while sharing his insights during the inaugural address said “The first half of the India belonged to Mahathma Gandhiji, the second half was inspired by Dr. B R Ambedkar and the next generation will be the days of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore”. He also affirmed that Gurudev doesn’t belong to Bengalis only, but to all Indians. His message and life is a true inspiration to the current generation”. Shri. Anchintya Lal Roy, quoted the phrase from the poetry of Gurudev to ascertain his presence and relevance to the current era of threat and turmoil. Shri. Vindra Bangroo in his address said “The exhibition on Gurudev which you are going to see was first held in Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts from 10-20TH May, 2011 and was inaugurated by Prof. Inder Nath Chandhary, thereafter, with the collaboration of Delhi . Sahitya Parishad was held in Kamani Auditorium from 5-6th August, 2011 and inaugurated by the then Honorable finance minister and presently His Excellency President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee”. The exhibition was appreciated and very well received by scholars and students alike. We received requests from a number of institution and it we decided to make it. The exhibition has been held in Rampur Raza library,an oriented library in Uttar Pradesh, M.K.P. College Dehradun in Uttarkhand , Kurukeshtra University in Haryana, Women’s College in Silchar Assam and Tripura State Museum, Agartala. The inauguration was followed by Rabindra Sangeet by Shri. Sounak Chattopadhyay from Kolkata. The concert was a unique concept of fusing Rabindra Sangeet with traditional Hindustani Classical music and was very well received by the discerning audience.Shri. The Workshop Performance was inaugurated through “Melam”, announcing the commencement of Kathakali. The workshop performance of Navarasam – Demonstrated the nine emotions. Karuna rasa was demonstrated through a padam ” Paripahi Mam Hare, Padmalaya Patae” from the Katha – Duryodhana Vadham. – Draupadi comes crying to Lord Krishna with her hairs open crying to protect her. She reminisces how she was dragged onto the court by Dussasana and how she was humiliated amidst several men. She requests Lord Krishna to take revenge on Dussana. The main Katha (story) revolved round “Narakasura Vadham”. The performance was accompanied by a power point presentation at the back drop to facilitate thorough understanding of the performance executed through gestures and songs.
