Film screening of MASKHARA

Maskhara- a jester, in the folk theatre – Bhand Pather, is a comedian who entertains the audiences. This folk play is performed in open and is seen by thousands of spectators at a time. The documentary focuses on its traditional style, gestures of the characters, uniqueness of the costumes, the singing and dancing convention.

IGNCA Book Circle @ Reference Library

IGNCA Book Circle @ Reference Library – Sung in a sensual style by Ms. Rekha Surya, one of the few practitioners of the Lucknow Gharana of North Indian music, She has kept alive traditional ghazal-gayaki and preserved the legacy of her legendary guru Begum Akhtar by propagating this art at prestigious concert and lecture venues in India and abroad. Having also honed her skills under tutelage of another legend, Girija Devi of Benaras gharana, she has combined both styles of singing into an individualistic style.

Film screening of PANDAVANI

Pandavani is the narrative tradition of communities like Pardhan, Gaund and Devar, spread across Chhatisgarh, Orissa and Andhra Pradesh. The documentary highlights various nuances of the story-telling tradition and its two main styles- Vedamati and Kapalika. The famous Tijanbai features performing a Kapalika style narrative.

Release of DVD on Vidushi Savita Devi

IGNCA has recorded over 25 great masters in Hindustani Classical Music. In Phase II of the project, DVDs of a selection of the recording is being released. The DVD on Smt. Savita Devi is the fifth in the series.The release will be followed by a concert by the artist.
