Kathakar: International storytellers Festival

IGNCA is hosting a storytelling festival, Kathakar: International storytellers Festival at the Amphitheatre, C. V. Mess Janpath, in collaboration with Nivesh, an NGO. This is the third year of the festival at IGNCA.

Like in the previous years, this year also, we would be presenting storytellers from India and abroad. Both contemporary stories and tales from legend, history and oral traditions will be presented by professional and passionate storytellers. We get students from government schools to attend the sessions in the morning. This year, we are hosting a session for children with special needs.

Participating story tellers will be: 

National – Puran Bhat (Rajasthan), Gangacharn Singh, Kalicharan and group (Swang, Meerut), Usha Venkataramen (Mumbai)

International – Emily Hennessey (U.K.), Giles Abbott (U.K.), Tim Ralphs (U.K.)

Time: 9.00 am to 11.45 am (for school children)   and 4.30 pm to 8.00 pm (for open audience)

IGNCA Book Circle @ Reference Library. This month, Prof Susan Visvanathan will read from her book The Children of Nature: The Life and Legacy of Ramana Maharshi

IGNCA Book Circle @ Reference Library. This month, Prof Susan Visvanathan will read from her book The Children of Nature: The Life and Legacy of Ramana Maharshi. The book addresses the question of devotion and community life with respect to Ramanasramam in Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu. It seeks to understand mysticism, transcendence and detachment within a historical perspective, looking at narratives from a feminist perspective. Prof Susan Visvanathan teaches Sociology at Centre for the Study of Social Systems, JNU, Delhi. She is the author of The Christians of Kerala, and also a well known writer of literary fiction. Susan Visvanathan was Fellow at NMML, Delhi and at IIAS, Shimla and MSH, Paris She was SASNET Fellow at Lund University and Charles Wallace Fellow at Belfast.

A box filled with photographs and negatives, made in India in 1945, compels a couple to try and unravel the mystery behind who took these photographs. Contemporary Indian artists draw inspiration from these images and create new artworks in response. The resulting film is a cross-cultural exploration of the power of art.
