RAJ KUMAR SHYAM – GOND ARTIST of MADHYA PRADESH

Raj Kumar Shyam who lives in Patangarh, learnt the art of painting from Jangarh Singh Shyam. He has never made ‘Digna’ on the walls of their houses. But he does it now, on canvas and paper. He is happy with the ‘brushes’ which help him to portray the details of the themes. 

His themes are Thakur Dev, Banda Dev, birds, animals. He took up painting because he had the aptitude for it. He says “those who have aptitude for farming should do farming, those who have aptitude for painting should do painting”. He agrees there are many artists in villages who are doing both.
