PRESIDENT SHRI K.R. NARAYANAN ACCEPTS IGNCA PUBLICATIONS

ARTICLE –IGNCA has a distinguished guest on January 8, 2002.  First citizen President Shri K.R. Narayanan visited IGNCA and accepted IGNCA publications.  The President was in IGNCA to inaugurate an exhibition of Porcelain paintings by Mrs. Neena Patel.  Accepting the IGNCA publications, the President said he was overwhelmed by the enormous gesture of presenting as gift the fruit of scholarship and research.  Quoting poet Ramanujan, he said ‘no nation can take its culture for granted.  Every generation has to earn its cultural tradition and repossess them.’  “It seems IGNCA has done this job to enable us to earn our culture and repossess its cultural tradition”  Shri Narayanan said.>IGNCA scholars presented books, CD-ROMs and video-casettes to the President.  (List given below).  Dr. L.M. Singhvi, President IGNCA Trust, welcoming the President said Shri Narayanan was a great statesman with “great qualities, wide sympathies, cultural nobility, social sensibility and intellectual depth”   Prof. N.R. Shetty presented synopsis of the various publications presented and also apprised the President of the activities of IGNCA.

Mrs. Meena Patel presented Shri Naryanan with a porcelain painting of the President himself.  He remarked that he had been overwhelmed by the gesture.  The President inaugurated the exhibition and went round and appreciated the creative work done by Mrs. Patel.  Former President Shri R. Venkataraman and Smt. Sonal Manshing (both Trustees of IGNCA Trust) were among the dignitaries present on the occasion.
