This book provides short but useful insight into all the crafts practiced in the seven sister states of northeastern India along with the other states of India. Craft development with reference to the seven states is dealt in this book.

There is a chapter in this book that focuses on the cane and bamboo culture in Arunachal Pradesh. It provides information about basket making and its various products as well as cane products.

3. THE ARTS AND CRAFTS OF NAGALAND, NAGA INSTITUTE OF CULTURE, GOVT OF NAGALAND, KOHIMA, 1968.

Effort has been made in this book to study the bamboo works, followed by its history, technique of basket weaving and it also provides illustrations of an excellent nature of the crafts of Nagaland.

4. DR. HUSSAIN MAJID, ENCYCLOPAEDIA OF INDIA, NAGALAND, RIMA PUBLICATIONS, NEW DELHI, 1994.

In this volume on Nagaland, especially talks about wood and cane work a chapter in this region. Different varieties of cane and bamboo crafts as well as the technique employed are highlighted in this chapter.

An article here gives information about the bamboo culture in Meghalaya. It also deals with the different kinds of bamboo grown here.

The impact of urbanization in this hilly state of northeastern India is dealt with great expertise in this book. The subject of its specialized study is Doparijo (a place in Arunachal Pradesh). There is an article that provides very interesting insight into the repercussions of urbanization on the traditional bamboo and cane carts of Doparijo.

This book centers around Arunachal Pradesh and the tribal craft of basket- making, metallic tools used, basketry technique (technically dealt with), various shapes and forms of baskets, and its socio- religious significance along with illustrations.

8. BAHADUR MUTUA, CANE & BAMBOO CRAFTS OF MANIPUR, MUTUA MUSEUM, IMPHAL, 1994.

Manipur being the focal point of this book, a systematic study has been done on the entire range of bamboo and cane crafts here. It provides very good illustrations as well as deals in totality with the history, culture, preparation and technique, the various kinds of baskets, traps, umbrellas, headgears and ornaments, musical instruments, totems, effigies, images, etc.

9. RANJAN M.P., NILAM IYER, GHANSHYAM PANDYA, BAMBOO AND CANE CRAFTS OF NORTHEAST INDIA, NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF DESIGN.

A book providing insight into the bamboo and cane crafts of north- eastern India along with excellent and plentiful illustrations, has very detailed and useful footage on bamboo architecture, furniture, bamboo containers, baskets, haversacks, winnowing trays and fans, fish traps, rain shields, head gear, bamboo mat products and miscellaneous products.

10. NATH T.K., BAMBOO CANE AND ASSAM, SPONSORS: INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT BANK OF INDIA, SMALL INDUSTRIES DEVELOPMENT BANK OF INDIA, GUWAHATI, ASSAM.

This book deals exclusively with bamboo and cane craft in Assam. Research being done on its history, geographical pre-requisites, climatic conditions favourable to its growth, its characteristics, varied kinds found in Assam, is extensive and detailed. It also emphasizes on the future of the bamboo and cane crafts in Assam.

11. PAKYNTEIN E.H., SELECTED HANDICRAFTS OF ASSAM, CENSUS OF INDIA, VOL-III, ASSAM, PART VII- A, 1961.

Chapter VII of Census of India report, 1961,VOL- III, deals with cane and bamboo works of Assam. It provides information about the history and origin, products and process of manufacture (with illustrations-about 25 to 30) along with implements and tools used as well as scope for development of this craft in the near future.

12. BRIGADIER VERGHESE C.G. V.S.M. (RTD), R.L. THANZAWNA MCS (RTD), THE HISTORY OF THE MIZOS, VOL-II, VIKAS PUBLISHING HOUSE PVT. LTD., DELHI, 1997.

The Appendix (3) of this book provides information about Bamboo, the Giant Grass. The information is based on articles by Luis Marden published in the National Geographic Magazine of 1982 and extracts from Country Note Book published by M. Krishnan in The Times of India.

13. HANDICRAFTS OF INDIA, ALL INDIA HANDICRAFTS BOARD, MINISTRY OF PRODUCTION, GOVT IF INDIA, PUBLICATION DIVISION, NEW DELHI.

This book has illustrations of handicrafts in India. Photographs of bamboo and cane products such as rain hat, tea baskets of Assam can be seen in this book. All the illustrations are in colour and the captions below each illustration provides useful information about each product.

14. CHATTOPADHYAYA KAMLADEVI, THE GLORY OF INDIAN HANDICRAFTS, INDIAN BOOK COMPANY, NEW DELHI, 1976.

An article in this book stresses upon basketry, mat weaving, bamboo and cane work with emphasis to bamboo and cane crafts of Assam, Tripura and Manipur.

15. CHATTOPADHYAYA KAMLADEVI, INDIAN HANDICRAFTS, ALLIED PUBLISHERS, NEW DELHI, 1963.

There is an article in this book along with illustrations, which highlights the art of basketry and its technique in simple words. It also makes an effort to understand bamboo and its multiple usages.

There is an article in this book that focuses on basketry both tribal and folk. In folk basketry, reference is being made to Assam and in tribal basketry, reference to Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh can be found.

An article on basketry can be found in this book. It talks about basket weaving, mats of cane and bamboo, etc in this article in respect to Assam and Bengal along with some illustrations.

This book provides excellent illustrations of the day-to-day life of the people of NC Hills (Assam), their culture, social life, natural scenic beauty, bamboo forests as well as an insight into the mysterious ways of nature- the bird mystery of Jatinga that has caught the fancy of a number of researchers and ornithologists across the globe.

There is a article in this book on Naga Culture with emphasis to the handicrafts of Nagaland. Tribe specific basket making in Nagaland is also mentioned here. The varied usage of bamboo also finds space in this article.

There is an article in this volume of the encyclopedia, which focuses on the cane and bamboo works of the tribes of Arunachal Pradesh. It talks about basketry, bamboo architecture, suspension bridges and cane furniture.
