JIBLI PARGI – BHIL ARTIST of RAJASTHAN
Jibli Pargi learnt to draw by watching her parents, Phula and Champa Pargi. She started painting when she was nine years old. The main motif in her painting is work. Everyone, men, women, animals, are engaged in some kind of work. Another interesting motif is a frog which jumps up suddenly and startles everyone around. A recurring theme, which Jibli draws is the memory stone, the cheera, dedicated to the ancestors. Like all the other Bhil artists in the region, Jibli has drawn the most important religious festival of Gavri, in honour of the goddess Parvati.
