PHULA PARGI – BHIL ARTIST of RAJASTHAN
video clips Song by Phula Pargi and Kuber Pargi | on Shiva and Parvati | Showing his painting | Prof. Bhanaot on Phula Pargi’s Painting
Phula Pargi is an excellent storyteller and in every painting he is telling a story, sometimes about Devi Amba who had gone to the pataal lok to bring greenery for the world, and in the process, had to confront theSheshnaag; sometimes about the Peacock and Indra who were brothers. When Indra had boasted of his power, telling the peacock he would die if Indra did not bring in rain, the peacock had said that he would certainly survive. Indra had then stopped the rain for 12 years But ultimately had to admit that he was wrong. The peacock had not only survived but had kept on saying, “I am there!” Mai hoon, main hoon, as it does even today.
Phula Pargi has depicted bird and animals, and one of his motifs is searching for food. Phula Pargi has painted Goddesses like Amba, Kalka, Parvati and has extensively drawn on Gavari, the annual religious festival in honour of Devi Parvati. He has painted Bhasmasura who had wanted to take away Parvati from Shiva and reduce Shiva into ashes. Phula Pargi’s paintings adorn the walls of the museum of TRI and the Bhil Hut in Shilpa Gram.
