Documentary Film Screening - Folklore Museum of Mysore IGNCA Regional Centre Puducherry cordially invites you to Documentary Film Screening – Folklore Museum of Mysore Director: M Lingraj (Karnataka) The documentary fathoms the mindscape and documents the implements and objects of the tribal world of Karnataka. It examines the concept of “Bhootaradhana” and wooden idols and influence of mother goddess on the traditional society of the region. The documentary films are highly beneficial to the young artists minds. It examines the concept of “Bhootaradhana” and wooden idols and the influence of Mother goddess on the traditional society of the region. The story is then foccused on celebration through Yakshagana and shadow puppetry. This film is relating architecture of the village deity and to the tangible and intangible heritage of the folk world. The Puducherry Regional Centre feels that screening the above said film is not only preserve the knowledge and the spirit of our Art and Culture but also the time-honoured essence South India’s Art and Heritage. Further it will pave way for awakening the Spirit and Consciousness of the present younger generation. Virtual Exhibition on Glorious Bhimbetka: An Exhibition based on IGNCA’s Dr. Yashodhar Mathpal Collection Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts Adi Drishya Department Presents the online Virtual Exhibition on Glorious Bhimbetka: An Exhibition based on IGNCA’s Dr. Yashodhar Mathpal Collection The present exhibition the “Glorious Bhimbetka: An Exhibition based on IGNCA’s Dr. Yashodhar Mathpal Collection” is mainly based on the water colour reproductions of the rock paintings of Bhimbetka made by Dr. Yashodhar Mathpal and acquired by IGNCA for its archival and research purpose. Bhimbetka rock shelters are a UNESCO World Heritage rock art site in the Raisen District of Madhya Pradesh. This exhibition gives an insight into exploring artistic manifestations emanating from man’s primary sense perceptions. It not only gives a detailed analysis of rock art and related data from Bhimbetka, but also provides an insight into its archaeological and ethnographical context. |

Documentary Film Screening : Koothu Koothu, a living theatre tradition from Tamil Nadu, brings to life stories about gods, demigods, kings and demons from Indian epics. During the festival season, many Koothu companies tour the countryside, often commissioned by villages to perform for several consecutive nights. Despite its enduring rural popularity, because of its low-caste associations, Koothu struggles to finds place and patronage in urban art circles. The Film delves into the art, aesthetics and politics surrounding Koothu through the work of two Koothu masters, P. Rajagopal and Sambandan Thambiran. Kissa – a romantic ballad or a masnavi in Persian – is a tragic story of love, valour, betrayal, passion, adventure, and the like, that form an important part of the Punjabi literature. This literary genre, which dates back to medieval times, has been much popular in Punjab.
