The documentary is on the role of Press in the freedom struggle of India. It highlights the significance of the vernacular Press in spreading the message of the freedom movement among the masses and the humiliations suffered by the editors of those times. The rare archival newspapers and magazines of that era have been shown in the documentary.

Africans in India: A Rediscovery a travelling exhibition put together by the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, New Delhi and the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, New York, retraces the lives and achievements of some of the talented and prominent Africans of yesterday who became an integral part of the socio-cultural heritage of India.

In association with The Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar, the exhibition will be opened at The Indian Legal History Museum within the University. The event will be inaugurated by Dr. S. K. Nanda (IAS) on 10 August, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. The Nawab of Sachin will be the Guest of Honor on the occasion.

On the 5 October, 2015, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat, Smt. Anandiben Patel, the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Bangladesh, Mr. Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha and the Hon’ble Law Minister of Gujarat, Shri Pradipsinh Jadeja and many dignitaries visited the exhibition at the GNLU Museum.

Report on the Lecture Demonstration

‘AMS EASY METHODS’, Lecture and Demonstration by Prof.Akella Mallikarjuna Sharma. Sangeeta Kala Acharya Vidu. Smt. Neela Ramgopal was Chief Guest and Vidu.Geetha Ramanand was Eminent Guest for the lecture and demonstration. Shri Vikram Sampath, Executive Director, IGNCASRC, Bengaluru welcomed the audience and addressed the gathering the eminence of Prof.AMS, his great contributions as a musician-violinist giving accompaniments to many great Vidwans and Vidushees, as a Professor teaching and as Principal, administering, as a scholar researching and as an author with many books of great merits on Karnataka Sangeetham. He also paid his respect to Prof. AMS as his Sadguru and the special relationship both of them enjoyed. Vid.Shri Sandhyavandanam Madhva Muni Rao, who had proposed this event and acted as coordinator for this event joined the distinguished artists on the Dias, on invitation. Invocation song was rendered by the students of Prof.Nagendra Sashtri Srikantham and the Gyana Jyothi was lighted by the distinguished Vidwans, Vidushees and Shri Vikram Sampath. The Lecture Demonstration followed by EXPERTS PANEL DISCUSSIONS as Dr.Suma Sudhindra was the Chairperson and the experts panel consisted of Vidu.Neela Ramgopal; Vidu.Geetha Ramanand, Vidu.Madhavi Ramkuma, Vid.B.K.Chandramouli, Dr.K.Varada Rangan, Prof.Nagendra Shastri Srikantham. The discussions highlights were: 1. the teaching method has to be customized to suit the student. 2. the laya exercises is immensely useful to the students learning instruments 3.the emphasis is more on laya and lakshanas and the focus also has to be on lakshya aspect in self learning 4.the role of teacher to guide and mentoring cannot be dispensed with. Joining the discussions at the end of the panel discussions, Shri S.Madhva Muni Rao, coordinator for this event briefly explained that ‘AMS EASY METHODS’ does attempts customization not individually but collectively, it supports gaining the knowledge and the skills for‘re-creativity’ of the original creative works. It will enable better the distance education and Karnataka Sangeetham appreciation and practices paving the way for music for masses. Dr.Suma Sudhindra, Chairperson summarized the panel discussions recognizing the merits and demerits in the ‘AMS EASY METHODS’; made recommendation for acceptance and trying the system and methods in stages and with specific plan. With results encouraging, revision in the syllabus for academic teaching and examinations are to be written and submitted to the Board of studies.

This film, which is based on Tagore’s novel was commissioned by the Ministry of Culture at the time of 150th Birth Anniversary of Tagore, will be released by the Hon’ble Minister of Culture at 3.00pm on 7th August, 2015, the death anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore.

Karnataka Sangeetha Nrithya Academy, Govt. of Karnataka in association with Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts Southern Regional Centre host “Kuchipudi Dance Workshop and Performance”.

Report on the Kuchipudi Dance Workshop and Performance

The three day Kuchipudi Workshop and Performance was to commemoration of the departed soul Shri. A P J Abdul Kalam was inaugurated by Shri. Vikram Sampath, Executive Directror of IGNCA SRC. Dr. Vedantham Ramalinga Shashtry, Smt. Vidu. Sunanda Devi, Smt. Gangamma Keshava Murthy and Shri. T G Narasimha Murthy was present on stage.  Dr. Vedantham Ramalinga Shashtry garu, Workshop Director took the participants through the nuances and explained different mudras and songs in Kuchipudi form. Participants were divided into two groups as seniors and juniors for the convenience of teaching.  Smt. Vaijanthi Kashi, Smt. Venkata Durga Bhavani, Smt. Shivakumari and Vedantham Shri. Ramu were other teachersduring the Workshop.
The performance received applauds as Smt. Padmini Ragini Pattu and other partipants performed on stage.

From the 7th century, Buddhism underwent radical changes, and new forms appeared which were called Mahayana and Vajrayana or Tantra. The discipline combines yoga practice with highly complex ritualism, mixed with magic, and involves the worship of a large number of divinities, Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Mahayana Buddhism, both as a religion and a way of life has influenced the outlook of diverse communities in the Himalayan region. From Ladakh and Himachal in the west to Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim in the east, in small villages scattered throughout the areas bordering Tibet, are communities who have adopted the Buddhist way of life. The film looks at the influence of Buddhism – a Living Religion, on the socio-cultural heritage, dances, festivals, arts and craft of Buddhist communities in the North Eastern region of India, especially Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim.

Under the Outreach initiative the IGNCA Book Circle has a monthly event held on the fourth Thursday of every month.  This month Prof. Sheoraj Singh Bechain will read from his autobiography Mera Bachpan Mere Kandhon par which is remarkable writing published by Vani Prakashan. Prof Sheoraj is teaching in Hindi Department of Delhi University.He has been awarded Sahitya Bhushan, Uttar Pradesh,Hindi Sansthan Lucknow .Prof. Kalicharan from Hindi Department of Lucknow University will moderate the Session.
