Gaj Mahotsav Gaj Mahotsav, is a festival to celebrate the majestic Asian Elephant as India’s National Heritage animal. The celebration encompasses their salient role in ecology, as an integral part of our religion, mythology and literature. This 4 day festival being organized by Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) and the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC), partnered by the International Fund For Animal Welfare (IFAW) and United Nations Environment (UNE) will see active participation from policy makers, industry leaders, Influencers from the world of entertainment, sports, arts and culture, eminent conservationists and will be open to public. With dance and music performances to showcase the elephant in Indian tradition; films on the elephant; exhibition of elephant themed paintings and photographs by acclaimed Indian artists and children’s activities such as educative puppet shows, clay modeling sessions, art competitions, and creative writing workshops etc., the Mahotsav promises fun and entertainment for the entire family with something for everyone! Artists from across the country have created 101 life sized elephant art pieces representing the 101 elephant corridors of India, which promises to be a jumbo public draw. The festival will showcase the grandeur of the majestic Asian elephant and its themed events with public participation will serve to reinforce its status as our National Heritage Animal!
