IGNCA Film Circle : Deva Vadyangal : Temple Instruments of Kerala Director : R.Sarath Sound emitted by temple musical instruments for various ritualistic and ceremonial purposes is explored in this film. It touches upon the lesser known temple instruments of Kerala like Maddalam, Tayambaka Kompu, Kuzhal and Panca Vadyam like Sudha Maddalam, Edakka, Kompu, Elathalam. It traces the Guruvayur tradition and examines the Travancore School in which traditional instruments are played and taught. IGNCA Book Circle @ Reference Library. IGNCA Book Circle @ Reference Library. This month, Nitoo Das will read from her book titled Boki (Virtual Artists Collective, Chicago, 2008). Nitoo Das is a birder, caricaturist and poet. Her first collection of poetry, Boki, was published in 2008. Das’s PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru University dealt with constructions of the Assamese Identity under the British. Das teaches literature at Indraprastha College for Women, University of Delhi. Africans in India: A Rediscovery a travelling exhibition Africans in India: A Rediscovery a travelling exhibition put together by the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, New Delhi and the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, New York, retraces the lives and achievements of some of the talented and prominent Africans of yesterday who became an integral part of the socio-cultural heritage of India. In association with The Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar, the exhibition will be opened at The Indian Legal History Museum within the University. The event will be inaugurated by Dr. S. K. Nanda (IAS) on 10 August, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. The Nawab of Sachin will be the Guest of Honor on the occasion. On the 5 October, 2015, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat, Smt. Anandiben Patel, the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Bangladesh, Mr. Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha and the Hon’ble Law Minister of Gujarat, Shri Pradipsinh Jadeja and many dignitaries visited the exhibition at the GNLU Museum.

Lecture Demonstration and Panel Discussion of AMS Easy Method Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts Southern Regional Centre brings to you “Lecture Demonstration and Panel Discussion of AMS Easy Method” by Prof. Shri. Akella Mallikarjuna Sharma. Report on the Lecture Demonstration ‘AMS EASY METHODS’, Lecture and Demonstration by Prof.Akella Mallikarjuna Sharma. Sangeeta Kala Acharya Vidu. Smt. Neela Ramgopal was Chief Guest and Vidu.Geetha Ramanand was Eminent Guest for the lecture and demonstration. Shri Vikram Sampath, Executive Director, IGNCASRC, Bengaluru welcomed the audience and addressed the gathering the eminence of Prof.AMS, his great contributions as a musician-violinist giving accompaniments to many great Vidwans and Vidushees, as a Professor teaching and as Principal, administering, as a scholar researching and as an author with many books of great merits on Karnataka Sangeetham. He also paid his respect to Prof. AMS as his Sadguru and the special relationship both of them enjoyed. Vid.Shri Sandhyavandanam Madhva Muni Rao, who had proposed this event and acted as coordinator for this event joined the distinguished artists on the Dias, on invitation. Invocation song was rendered by the students of Prof.Nagendra Sashtri Srikantham and the Gyana Jyothi was lighted by the distinguished Vidwans, Vidushees and Shri Vikram Sampath. The Lecture Demonstration followed by EXPERTS PANEL DISCUSSIONS as Dr.Suma Sudhindra was the Chairperson and the experts panel consisted of Vidu.Neela Ramgopal; Vidu.Geetha Ramanand, Vidu.Madhavi Ramkuma, Vid.B.K.Chandramouli, Dr.K.Varada Rangan, Prof.Nagendra Shastri Srikantham. The discussions highlights were: 1. the teaching method has to be customized to suit the student. 2. the laya exercises is immensely useful to the students learning instruments 3.the emphasis is more on laya and lakshanas and the focus also has to be on lakshya aspect in self learning 4.the role of teacher to guide and mentoring cannot be dispensed with. Joining the discussions at the end of the panel discussions, Shri S.Madhva Muni Rao, coordinator for this event briefly explained that ‘AMS EASY METHODS’ does attempts customization not individually but collectively, it supports gaining the knowledge and the skills for‘re-creativity’ of the original creative works. It will enable better the distance education and Karnataka Sangeetham appreciation and practices paving the way for music for masses. Dr.Suma Sudhindra, Chairperson summarized the panel discussions recognizing the merits and demerits in the ‘AMS EASY METHODS’; made recommendation for acceptance and trying the system and methods in stages and with specific plan. With results encouraging, revision in the syllabus for academic teaching and examinations are to be written and submitted to the Board of studies.
