The icons of Lord Jagannatha and his companions in Jagannaatha temple of Puri in Orissa are made of Neem wood. Ritualistically, these icons are made after an interval of twelve/nineteen years. This event is called Navakalevara or the new embodiment.This film is a rare documentation of this event.

Report of the Inauguration
IGNCA SRC in association with Max Mueller Bhavan, Bangalore organized an “Exhibition Rabindranath Tagore: A Visionary, Artist and Poet”. The exhibition was inaugurated by Shri. Chiranjivi Singh, IAS (Retd), Shri. Achintya Lal Roy, Convener, Tagore Cultural Centre, Shri. Virendra Bangroo, Curator of the Exhibition and Shri. Vikram Sampath, Executive Director, IGNCA SRC. Shri. Chiranjivi Singh, while sharing his insights during the inaugural address said “The first half of the India belonged to Mahathma Gandhiji, the second half was inspired by Dr. B R Ambedkar and the next generation will be the days of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore”. He also affirmed that Gurudev doesn’t belong to Bengalis only, but to all Indians. His message and life is a true inspiration to the current generation”. Shri. Anchintya Lal Roy, quoted the phrase from the poetry of Gurudev to ascertain his presence and relevance to the current era of threat and turmoil. Shri. Vindra Bangroo in his address said “The exhibition on Gurudev which you are going to see was first held in Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts from 10-20TH May, 2011 and was inaugurated by Prof. Inder Nath Chandhary, thereafter, with the collaboration of Delhi . Sahitya Parishad was held in Kamani Auditorium from 5-6th August, 2011 and inaugurated by the then Honorable finance minister and presently His Excellency President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee”. The exhibition was appreciated and very well received by scholars and students alike. We received requests from a number of institution and it we decided to make it. The exhibition has been held in Rampur Raza library,an oriented library in Uttar Pradesh, M.K.P. College Dehradun in Uttarkhand , Kurukeshtra University in Haryana, Women’s College in Silchar Assam and Tripura State Museum, Agartala. The inauguration was followed by Rabindra Sangeet by Shri. Sounak Chattopadhyay from Kolkata. The concert was a unique concept of fusing Rabindra Sangeet with traditional Hindustani Classical music and was very well received by the discerning audience.Shri. Sounak was accompanies by Shri. Premendu Ghosh on Tabla and Shri. Surajit Chakraborti on Keyboard

The film looks at the life-cycle events of Sufi saints, Islamic institutions, creative heritage, folk songs and creative traditions that highlight the Islamic heritage of Assam. It shows that Islamic heritage in Assam has been shaped over eight centuries since the first footing of the Muslims in this part of the country through interface and interaction of the community with the locals. The liberal Vaishnava tradition in healthy conjunction with the Sufi tradition offered unique opportunities to the Muslims to identify and integrate themselves into local lifestyles and build a harmonious customary and liberal Islamic heritage.

IGNCA Book Circle @ Reference Library. Under the Outreach initiative the IGNCA Book Circle has a monthly event held on the fourth Thursday of every month. This month, Ms. Anuradha Marwah, Associate Professor in the Department of English at Zakir Husain Delhi College, Delhi University will present three novels The Higher Education of Geetika Mehendiratta (1993), Idol Love (1999), and Dirty Picture (2007) and three plays Margins (first performed in 2008), A Pipe Dream in Delhi (first performed in 2009, published in 2012) and Sarkari Feminism (first performed in 2010) – all of which have women protagonists.

Africans in India: A Rediscovery a travelling exhibition put together by the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, New Delhi and the Schomburg Centre for Research in Black Culture, New York, retraces the lives and achievements of some of the talented and prominent Africans of yesterday who became an integral part of the socio-cultural heritage of India. In association with Science Centre, Surat (under Surat Municipal Corporation), the exhibition will be showcased at one of the art galleries of the Science Centre.
The event was inaugurated on 24 June, 2015.
Open to public from 25 June to 15 July, 2015.

The Workshop Performance was inaugurated through “Melam”, announcing the commencement of Kathakali. The workshop performance of Navarasam – Demonstrated the nine emotions. Karuna rasa was demonstrated through a padam ” Paripahi Mam Hare, Padmalaya Patae” from the Katha – Duryodhana Vadham. – Draupadi comes crying to Lord Krishna with her hairs open crying to protect her. She reminisces how she was dragged onto the court by Dussasana and how she was humiliated amidst several men. She requests Lord Krishna to take revenge on Dussana. The main Katha (story) revolved round “Narakasura Vadham”. The performance was accompanied by a power point presentation at the back drop to facilitate thorough understanding of the performance executed through gestures and songs.

Sumanyu Satpathy will read from the book The One Eyed Chick and other Stories, This will be followed by a discussion on the book or the subject. Professor Sumanyu Satpathy is Head of Department of English, University of Delhi, India, besides teaching, researching and publishing, has also been involved in several administrative and decision-making bodies. He has taught in tribal areas in India at the tertiary level in various universities and colleges in India and abroad

Lai-Haraoba is derived from the words Lai Hao Loba. Shouting of Hai by the Lai or deity in a state of bliss is the core of the concept. Lai Haraoba is the annual ritual festival of Manipur, which takes place in the month of April/May and is celebrated continuously for 7/9/13 days. The film bears witness to the creation of the Universe and life forms including flora and fauna, through ritual dances, dramatic performances and processions. The gold and the silver of the egg are equated with the male-female principles. Sacred water touches the navel of God Guru Sidaba. Guru Sidaba solidifies the network of human life with the help of Atiya Guru Sidaba, and by enslaving the evil Harva by the beautiful lightning goddess.
