Exhibition: 25 years of Audiovisual Journey : Recalling through Equipment and Documentation

On the occasion of the silver jubilee of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, Media Centre is presenting a hindsight view of all the audio-visual equipment it has been using and the multi-disciplinary documentation it has done using them in 25 years. In the last three decades, the world of audio-visual equipment has undergone a sea change and audio-visual evolution from spool or VHS format to present digital format have had its varied signatures at different phases. IGNCA has been a witness to this audio-visual revolution. This exhibition provides a retrospective stopover to view how evolution took place in the last 25 years and how the world is negotiating towards future – in the digital sphere. Media Centre has been carrying out audio-visual research documentation, archiving them for posterity, post-production and dissemination of documentaries through DVD publication, Doordarshan transmission, film shows and outreach for scholars in Media Centre Library through audio-video viewing and listening counters.

Exhibition of Audio Visual Archives.

This exhibition is being held on the occasion of the International Audio Visual Heritage Day, observed by the UNESCO on 27 October. Sangeet Natak Academy, Prasar Bharati, American Institute of Indian Studies, Rupayan Sansthan, Archive of Indian Music, Naad Sagar Archives, Archive of North Indian Classical Music, School of Cultural Texts and Records, Jadavpur University and IGNCA are collaborating in the event. All the institutions will be presenting the select collections from their respective archives.

In connection to the exhibition a Symposium will be held.

A two-day seminar and lecture demonstrations on Traditional and modern forms of puppetry: Issues in contemporary expressions and practices will be held at the Conference Room, Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, CV Mess, Janpath, New Delhi-110001 on 11th and 12th of April 2013. The seminar is being organised by IGNCA in collaboration with Sangeet Natak Academy and Ishara Puppet Theatre. The exhibition was inaugurated on 8th March, 2013 by Hon”ble Union Minister for Culture, Smt. Chandresh Kumari Katoch on the occasion of International Women’s Day celebrations at IGNCA. The exhibition comprises noted artist Sajitha Shankar’s paintings and drawings on archetypes and alterbodies. The section on archetypes showcases a series of works on Akka Mahadevi, the 12th century poet-saint from Karnataka and alterbodies explore diverse possibilities of body.
