वेस्सभू बुद्ध पालि परम्परा में इक्कीसवें बुद्ध के रुप में मान्य हैं। उनके पिता का नाम सुप्पतित्त तथ माता का नाम यसवती था। उनका जन्म अनोम नगर में हुआ था तथा उनका नाम वेस्सभू रखा गया था क्योंकि पैदा होते ही उन्होंने वृसभ की आवाज़ निकाली थी। उनकी पत्नी का नाम सुचित्रा तथा पुत्र का नाम सुप्पबुद्ध था।

छ: हज़ार सालों तक रुचि, सुरुचि और वड्ढन नामक प्रासादों में सुख-वैभव का जीवन-यापन करने के बाद सोने की पालकी में बैठकर उन्होंने अपने गृहस्थ-जीवन का परित्याग किया था।

तत: छ: महीनों के तप के पश्चात् उन्होंने एक साल वृक्ष के नीचे सम्बोधि प्राप्त की। सम्बोधि के पूर्व उन्होंने सिरिवड्ञना नामक कन्या के हाथों खीर ग्रहण किया था। उनका आसन नागराज नरीन्द ने एक साल वृक्ष के नीचे बिताया था। उन्होंने अपने प्रथम उपदेश अपने दो भाई सोन और उत्तर को दिये थे, जो कि उनके दो प्रमुख शिष्यों के रुप में जाने जाते हैं। उपसन्नक उनके प्रमुख उपासक थे। उनके प्रमुख प्रश्रयदाता सोत्थिक एवं राम, गोतमी और सिरिमा तथा उनकी प्रश्रयदातृ थीं।

साठ हज़ार वर्ष की अवस्था में उन्होंने खोमाराम में परिनिर्वाण प्राप्त किया। उनके अवशेषों को अनेक स्थानों में बिखेर दिया गया था। उन दिनों बोधिसत्त सारभवती में राजा सुदस्सन के नाम से राज्य करे था।

V essabhu in the Pali tradition is reckoned as the twenty-first Buddha. He was born in Anoma. The name of his father was Supattita and of the mother Yasavati. He was called so because when born he shouted like a bull. The name of his wife was Suchitta; and of the son was Suppabuddha.

He lived as a house-holder for six thousand years and lived in three palaces, namely, Ruchi, Suruchi and Vaddhana. He renounced home on a golden palaquin ; and practised austerities for only six months. Just before his Enlightenment he accepted the milk-rice from Sirivaddhana. Naga king Narinda had prepared his seat. The tree under which he attained Enlightenment was the Sal. He delivered his first sermon to his brothers Sona and Uttara, who became his chief disciples. His chief attendant was Upasanta (also called Upasannaka). Sotthika and Rama among men and Gotami and Sirima among the women were his chief patrons.   

He died in Khemarama at the age of sixty thousand.

The Bodhisatta lived as king of Sarabhavati and had the name Sudassana during the time of Vessabhu Buddha.
